INKY FINGERS OPEN MIC
8 – 11pm, Tuesday 25th June
Serenity Café, 8 Jackson Entry (just by the Scottish Poetry Library)
The Inky Fingers Open Mic takes place every fourth Tuesday of the month, from 8-11pm. It’s free to come and free for anyone to perform, regardless of style, experience, or identity.
We want to hear from everybody. We want your poems, your rants, your ballads, your short stories, your diaries, your experimental texts, your heart, your mind, your body. We want the essay on your summer holidays you wrote when you were four, your adolescent haiku, and extracts from your eventually-to-be-completed epic fantasy quadrilogy. We want to hear your best new work as well. And we want people to care about the way words are performed.
This month we’re bringing you a feature from Siân Bevan, the multi-talented story-writer, comedian, entertainer of big kids and small ones, and host of the ever-popular Electric Tales. “Self deprecating observations on her own life and a likeable delivery which made it easy for the audience to warm to her she built to a brilliant crescendo and had the crowd eating out of her hand. (Edinburgh Evening News) “A meandering off-kilter trip through the mind of a madwoman-come-genius.” (The Skinny)
As a special event while our home at the Forest deals with an inconvenient flood (no lie!), we’re very pleased to be at the wonderful Serenity Café, a new arts venue, community hub and recovery café in central Edinburgh. Come for the open mic and to get to know this brilliant new space! Please note, Serenity is a drug and alcohol free venue.
